Have you ever stopped and thought back to your schooling years and wondered about how much of your education you actually took back with you into adult hood? All that knowledge they gave you at school about the kings, the pyramids and ancient politics, information you spent hours, days and weeks studying that you have all but forgotten today? On the other hand have you come across fairly simply things you didn’t know that you realize they should actually have taught you in school? Sadly most of the education they give you in school is useless in everyday life however, generations before you have and generations after you will no doubt suffer the same fate. For this reason, if you want your child to grow up with an all-around knowledge about life and give them the skills they will need in adult life, it is vital that you as a parent take on that responsibility of giving them that knowledge.
One of the main things school education lacks is an overall knowledge of world languages such as French language classes, Japanese language classes and English language classes. Admittedly, students are given a very basic training in certain languages however; the result is often five basic sentences.
Moral and life education
Sadly most school teachers stick to the syllabii that they have been given and do not bother to divert from it in the least. Children are taught what is right and what is wrong from religious texts from two millennia ago, and leave school without much knowledge about the realities of life. We see most teenagers go wild after they leave school, partying and clubbing, often ending up drug addicted or pregnant. Schools do not provide children with a sound sex education outside of the biology of it nor do school gives a proper education about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. These subjects are hushed and spoken about in whispers with schools giving children rough punishment when caught in such acts over a sound education about them.
Language and Aesthetics
Many children know at a relatively young age what career or line of education they wish to pursue after school. However, schools still continue to give all students a general education including many things the child is not likely to need in later life. If a child is interested in software and computer studies, it would be beneficial for the child to begin learning about software from a young age. Additionally, you may send your child for Japanese language classes, as they may one day have the opportunity to study software and computer education in Japan, the world’s leading technology hub. If your child has an interest in dance and drama, enroll them in a reputed drama club from a young age so they may be career ready upon leaving school.
Importance of nutritional education
One important thing school education does not give is sufficient knowledge on one of the most vital parts of our survival, nutrition. Although schools provide a very basic education on nutrition it is often, outdated and wrong information that is given. For an example, we know today that meat and dairy is hazardous to our health however health teachers still continue to teach students about the benefits of consuming a meat and dairy based diet. Students and adults both lack knowledge on what food provides them with what nutrition and the benefits of a diet rich in certain foods. As a result, students often opt for a diet packed with processed and junk food.
In addition to this, children should be given sufficient knowledge in self-defense because as an adult, they may find themselves in situations where such an education could save their lives.
